New England Patriots legend Tom Brady seems to approve of his former team’s new coach, Jerod Mayo.

Brady and Mayo played together on the Patriots from 2008–15 when the new coach played as a linebacker with the quarterback. Mayo then began his coaching career in 2019 as New England’s inside linebackers coach, which was Brady’s last season with the Patriots before he became a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

During Brady’s Tuesday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, the retired quarterback had only good things to say about his former teammate.

“A great captain, a great friend, I think [Mayo] had a tremendous amount of success in football, and then had success in other parts of his life when he retired. And then him coming back into coaching, I think is great for the NFL,” Brady said. “It’s certainly great for the Patriots. He’s got a great understanding of how things need to be done. I think Jerod does an incredible job relating to everybody in the locker room, all the coaches, and I think he’ll do a great job.”

Mayo was hired on Jan. 12 after Bill Belichick left the team following 24 seasons with the Patriots.
