Summary

  • Percy Jackson season 1 finale teases an important character from the final book, indicating the significance of Hestia in the Last Olympian.
  • The themes of Percy Jackson season 1 align perfectly with the story of the Last Olympian, highlighting the flawed nature of the gods and the need for change.
  • The scene in the finale subtly foreshadows the role of Hestia in the final book and potentially in the future seasons of the show.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ season 1 finale included a scene on Mount Olympus which already teases as the culmination of the show’s entire story. The scene on Mount Olympus came as Percy recovered Zeus’ Master Bolt, looking to return the magical item of Percy Jackson‘s world to the king of the gods. This saw the titular demigod walk through the unbelievable city of Olympus to reach the top of the mountain, where Percy Jackson season 1’s ending truly began.

One of the book changes made by the Percy Jackson show involved less of an exploration of Olympus itself. The city below the mountain’s peak received less detail than in the original book, meaning several more of Percy Jackson‘s Greek mythological creatures and species were shown in favor of tighter pacing. This allowed Percy to reach Olympus’ throne room much quicker, where one subtle aspect of the scene secretly teased the ending of not just season 1, but the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympians show.

Disney+’s take on Percy Jackson and The Olympians is already thrilling during its first season, but will there be more adventures in the future?

Percy Jackson Season 1 Already Teased An Important Character In The Final Book, The Last Olympian

The tease in question comes from a wide shot of the throne room on Mount Olympus. As the shot is shown, a small fire can be seen on the right-hand side of Percy as he walks towards Zeus’ throne. This fire teases an important character from the final book of the series, the titular god in Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian.

In the book, the title Last Olympian refers to Hestia, goddess of the hearth and home. Due to her nature in the Greek pantheon, Hestia is often depicted sitting by the hearth on Olympus. This hearth was shown in Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ season 1 finale, teasing the vital importance Hestia has in the final book and, hopefully, the final season of the show should it be made.

Percy Jackson Season 1’s Themes Perfectly Match The Last Olympian’s Story

Warning! The following section contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian.

In Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian, Hestia is integral to Percy’s defeat of Kronos. While the other, more typically powerful gods like Zeus, Poseidon, Ares, Athena, and Hades are off fighting Typhon, Hestia stays on Olympus. She then aids Percy in defeating Luke and Kronos, saving the world as the Last Olympian left. This matches the themes of Percy Jackson season 1, proving how well the show is setting up what is to come.

Percy Jackson season 1 continuously depicted most gods as flawed beings who often forget their duties to their children, each other, and the world. In Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian, Percy holds the gods accountable for this and forces change on Olympus spurred by the aid of Hestia, a minor god who was forgotten by the bigger Olympians. This was foreshadowed by Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1’s story, including in the scene showing a flawed Zeus next to Hestia’s hearth.
