Warning! Preview pages ahead for Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #4!Godzilla did something few villains have managed to do to Superman during their first bout. When the Titan was brought to the DC Universe, he came face-to-face with the Man of Steel, who found out just how powerful Godzilla’s atomic breath was. Now Superman is facing the worst uphill battle since his match with Doomsday.

In a preview for Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #4 by Brian Buccellato and Christian Duce, the heroes are helping clean up the destruction from Godzilla and Superman’s first fight. As Shazam tracks Godzilla and Green Lantern escorts Damage off the battleground, Batman speaks to Superman, who is in intensive care.

The Justice League comforts Batman and gently tells him how serious the situation is. Superman’s cellular regeneration isn’t working, even after being placed in a solar array. He also doesn’t have a pulse. As the heroes debate what to do next, they find out that Godzilla is heading straight for the Fortress of Solitude for a rematch with Superman.

Godzilla’s Fight with Superman Ended in His Death

Superman getting blasted by Godzilla's atomic breath.

To defeat the Justice League for good, the Toyman used the Dreamstone to transport several Titans from the Monsterverse to the DCU. The plan was effective as the kaiju immediately started wrecking famous locations like Themyscira and Gotham. Metropolis, unfortunately, got the worst of it as the King of the Monsters arrived, forcing Superman to defend his city. Superman teamed up with Hawkgirl and Shazam to take down the giant lizard, but he was just too powerful. Superman was forced to shield a vulnerable Billy Batson from Godzilla’s atomic breath and took the full brunt of it, leaving him down for the count and covered in radiation burns.

Superman fans know this isn’t the first time an out-of-control monster hit Clark Kent so hard he couldn’t get back up. Doomsday did the exact same thing when his rampage ended with Clark dying on national television. While similar, this situation is slightly worse. When Doomsday defeated Superman, Clark at least managed to stop his foe’s reign of terror. But Superman underestimated just how powerful Godzilla’s atomic breath was when he chose to save Billy. Now Superman is fighting to come back to life as Godzilla is continuing his rampage across the DC Universe. Even if Clark manages to get back to full strength soon, will he have what it takes to defeat Godzilla?

Superman Can Defeat Godzilla, But Only With Preparation

Superman and Godzilla DC

Through sheer force alone, Doomsday was the first villain to do the impossible and kill Superman. Clark had no idea just how powerful Godzilla was when he first encountered him, and the hero paid the ultimate price for his mistake. However, it’s almost certain Clark will heal from his grievous injury, just as he did when he fought Doomsday. And in the same way that he was able to defeat Doomsday more easily after dying, Superman will know how cautious to be around Godzilla and better prepare himself. Godzilla may have killed Superman, but the hero is no doubt just resting for his eventual win.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #4 is on sale from DC Comics now.
