Avatar 3 Will Focus On ‘Greater Character Depth’ & Avatar 4 Will Include Six Year Time Jump

by extreme hd iptv

  • Director James Cameron reveals that Avatar 4 will include a six-year time jump, suggesting a significant shift in the storyline and characters.
  • Cameron emphasizes the focus on “greater character depth” in Avatar 3, aiming to address criticism regarding the lack of depth in previous films.
  • The Avatar franchise is set to continue with upcoming movies, indicating that there is still a lot of life left in this successful series.

Sam Worthington has revealed that his return to filming on Avatar 4 is imminent. While recently speaking to People, Worthington shared a brief but exciting update on the fourth installment of the multi-billion dollar franchise, and gave a tantalizing tease at the scale of the new story. He said:

We go back to work on it in a month and it’s big. It’s bigger than you can imagine.

Director James Cameron previously offered some intriguing details regarding both Avatar 3 and Avatar 4, with the filmmaker revealing that the fourth movie will include a six-year time jump. Speaking with People, Cameron assured fans of the Avatar franchise that the third outing is “right on track” to meet its December 2025 release and confirmed that they have already completed the motion capture and live-action photography.

“We did the [motion capture] capture on three and the live-action photography on three as an intermingled production with [‘Avatar: The Way of Water’], and we even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four.”

It certainly sounds like Cameron is on top of everything (as expected), with the director needing to capture as much as possible of the young cast as they are now due to the upcoming leap forward in time.

“We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back. And so the part where we come back is the part we haven’t shot yet. So we’ll start on that after three is released.”

Last year’s multi-billion-dollar box office behemoth Avatar: The Way of Water introduced the children of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), with the third movie expected to shift focus from Worthington and Saldaña’s characters to the likes of Britain Dalton’s Lo’ak and Sigourney Weaver’s Kiri.

Which tracks with leaping forward so much when entering Avatar 4 and suggests that there is still a lot of life left in the already hugely successful franchise.

Avatar 3 Will Bring ‘Greater Character Depth’ as It Explores New Cultures & New Creatures

While the Avatar movies have so far made many a headline and put a lot of effort into debuting ground-breaking technology, Cameron declares while speaking with GQ that the “big creative advance” in Avatar 3 is, in fact, characterization.

“The big [creative] advance in [‘Avatar 3’] is just going to be greater character depth. We’re seeing new cultures, new creatures — all the same stuff you’d expect from an ‘Avatar’ movie, but the whole idea of this cycle of films is to live with these people and go on this epic journey with them. So I think it’s not about, ‘We’re going to show you the best water [VFX] ever done’ — but you get more into the heart and soul of the characters. And there’s some very interesting new characters that come in as well. This is a journey over time. It will play out through movie three, into movie four and movie five. There’s an epic cycle to the whole thing.”

Both Avatar movies have so far been largely criticized for their lack of character depth, with this move towards “greater character depth” from Cameron hopefully addressing this perceived issue.

Avatar 3 is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 expected to be released on December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031, respectively.
